the challenge
design a brand-new, e-commerce website for Eric Lillard Photography, a colorado-based photographer hoping to sell his prints online. he wanted to design within squarespace but also wanted a custom product variable package so that he could sell custom print sizes and types.
solution one
create a visual identity for Eric’s brand. his photography is natural and easy, soft on the eyes but powerful. with earth tones and rich neutrals, buttons and headlines on the site draw attention and conversions, while an impactful header typeface directed users through the site.
solution two
write custom code for a logic-based variables system that allows users to select the type of material for their print, then sizes based on the material selection, then surface options based on material and size selections. after working with the client to stay within squarespace’s constraints and to keep the UX clean and straightforward, I was able to navigate client expectations and the host’s limitations to create a functioning ordering system.
